CIVICUS
CIVICUS is an international alliance dedicated to strengthening citizen action and civil society throughout the world. CIVICUS seeks to amplify the voices and opinions of ordinary people. It recognizes that for effective and sustainable civic participation to occur, citizens must enjoy rights of free association and be able to engage all sectors of society. The health of societies exists in direct proportion to the degree of balance between the state, the private sector and civil society. 1

Witness for Peace
WFP is a politically independent, nationwide grassroots organization of people committed to nonviolence and led by faith and conscience. WFP’s mission is to support peace, justice and sustainable economies in the Americas by changing U.S. policies and corporate practices which contribute to poverty and oppression in Latin America and the Caribbean. Through the years, WFP has answered prophetic calls to accompany people most affected by harmful U.S. policies and corporate practices. WFP documents the human costs of unfair trade and military policy, transforms U.S. citizens who travel with WPF to their sites, and mobilize a motivated grassroots network of nonviolent, faith-based activists who hold policymakers accountable and work for positive change. 4

Bretton Woods Project
The BWP works as a networker, information-provider, media informant and watchdog to scrutinize and influence the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF). Through briefings, reports and the bimonthly digest Bretton Woods Update, it monitors projects, policy reforms and the overall management of the Bretton Woods institutions with special emphasis on environmental and social concerns. 5

The UI mission is to promote sound social policy and public debate on national priorities. The Urban Institute gathers and analyzes data, conducts policy research, evaluates programs and services, and educates Americans on critical issues and trends. 6

International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance
International IDEA is an intergovernmental organization that supports sustainable democracy worldwide. Its objective is to strengthen democratic institutions and processes. IDEA’s work covers five themes: democracy assessment; democracy building and conflict management; electoral processes; political parties; and women in politics. 7

OSI is a private operating and grantmaking foundation that aims to shape public policy to promote democratic governance, human rights, and economic, legal, and social reform. On a local level, OSI implements a range of initiatives to support the rule of law, education, public health, and independent media. At the same time, OSI works to build alliances across borders and continents on issues such as combating corruption and rights abuses. 9

National Social Norms Resource Center
The NSNRC is an independent center that supports, promotes and provides technical assistance in the application of the social norms approach to a broad range of health, safety and social justice issues, including alcohol-related risk-reduction and the prevention of tobacco abuse. It is the only national center devoted exclusively to the understanding and use of the social norms approach. Site features case studies, research, resources and a press room. 10

GAA, based in New York at the United Nations, reports on older people's needs and potential within the global economy. It advocates by, with and for older persons worldwide. GAA carries out research on critical emerging topics and publishes the results on its website. GAA staff and interns research aging policy and programs, both in the US and worldwide. Programs include elder rights, health, pension watch, rural aging, and the armed conflict and emergencies project. 12

A Journal of Technology and Society - The magazine has two basic sections: a series of critical essays and in-depth reporting pieces, and an ongoing survey of technology and society that provides brief commentary on the major scientific advances and political debates as they happen. 13

What makes the concept of World Heritage exceptional is its universal application. WHC’s mission is encourage countries to sign the World Heritage Convention and to ensure the protection of their natural and cultural heritage.
